Hardcover. Condizione: As New. Condizione sovraccoperta: None, As Issued. 1st Edition. 1st Printing. 370 pages. Published in 2018. Retrospective Catalog. One of the best books on fashion photography ever published in our time. The First Hardcover Edition. Precedes and should not be confused with all other subsequent editions. Published in a small and limited first print run by the Getty Museum LA as a hardcover original only. The book is very beautifully produced in an oversize-volume format, is illustrated with numerous black-and-white and color plates, and printed on pristine-white, thick coated stock paper to the highest standards. Without DJ, as issued. Presents, in its First Edition format, "Icons of Style: A Century of Fashion Photography". Persuasively demonstrates that fashion = fashion photography. You cannot have one without the other, and no one champions the fact more than the fashion designers themselves. The late great designer Karl Lagerfeld pursued a parallel career as a photographer that he deemed as important as his fashion. "The French publisher Lucien Vogel challenged Edward Steichen to create the first artistic, rather than merely documentary, fashion photograph, a moment that is now considered to be a turning point in the history of fashion photography. As fashion changed over the next century, so did the photography of fashion: Richard Avedon encouraged his models to express their personalities by smiling and laughing, which had often been discouraged previously. Helmut Newton brought an explosion of sexuality into fashion images and turned the tables on traditional gender stereotypes in the 1970's. In the 1980's, Bruce Weber and Herb Ritts made male sexuality an important part of fashion photography. Includes more than three hundred photographs by the genre's most famous practitioners as well as lesser-known figures alongside a selection of costumes, fashion illustrations, magazine covers, and advertisements" (Publisher's blurb). An absolute "must-have" title for fashion and photography collectors. This title is a contemporary photography classic. This is one of few copies of the First Hardcover Edition/First Printing still available online and is in especially fine condition: Clean, crisp, and bright. Please note: Copies available online have serious flaws or are in subsequent printing yet command unheard-of prices. This is surely an accessible and lovely alternative. A scarce copy thus. Lavishly illustrated with hundreds of black-and-white and color plates. Some of the greatest photographers of the 20th century and our time. A fine copy. Hardcover. Condizione: New. Herb Ritts: L.A. Style traces the life and career of the iconic photographer through a compelling selection of renowned, as well as previously unpublished, photographs and two insightful essays. Herb Ritts (1952?2002) was a Los Angeles-based photographer who established an international reputation for distinctive images of fashion models, nudes, and celebrity portraits. During the 1980s and 1990s, Ritts was sought out by leading fashion designers such as Armani, Gianfranco Ferrà , Donna Karan, Calvin Klein, Valentino, and Versace, as well as magazine editors from GQ, Interview, Rolling Stone, and Vanity Fair, among others, to lend glamour to their products and layouts. Largely self-taught, Ritts developed his own style, one that often made use of the California light and landscape and helped to separate his work from his New York-based peers. From the late 1970s until his untimely death from AIDS in 2002, Ritts?s ability to create photographs that successfully bridged the gap between art and commerce was not only a testament to the power of his imagination and technical skill, but also marked the synergistic union between art, popular culture, and business that followed in the wake of the Pop Art movement of the 1960s and 1970s. An exhibition of the same name will be on view at the Getty Center from April 3 through August 12, 2012; at the Cincinnati Art Museum from October 6 through December 30, 2012; and at the John and Mable Ringling Museum of Art in Sarasota, Florida, from February 23 through May 19, 2013.…

Aggiungi al carrelloMagazine. First edition. Very Good oversized magazine, folded across the middle and with stress marks and a touch of tanning along the spine, tiny tears to the edges, and a small hole to the middle of the spine. SHIPS THE NEXT BUSINESS DAY, WRAPPED IN PADDING, IN A BOX. The third issue of The Manipulator (1985), the largest magazine ever printed. Founded by artists Wilhelm Moser and David Colby, it was published quarterly between 1984 and 1994. The editorial covered fashion, photography, architecture, design, film, and art, but the magazine was coveted for its poster-sized display of photographs. Contents include: an architectural photo-essay by Wilhelm Moser comparing Mayan structures, Nazi Nuremberg, and Versailles; a photo-essay by Flavio Bonetti on huge decaying war machines; David Bowie photographed by Greg Gorman; Jimmy Carter by Horst Wackerbarth; cover image of Green of Scritti Politti by John Swannell; and contributions from photographers Peter Lindbergh, Herb Ritts, Paul Jasmin, David Buckland, Ken Haak, Perry Ogden, Claus Wickrath, and others. Articles include: Andreas Wilink on the Berlin Film Festival; In God's Name by David Yallop; the artist Rissa; an interview with Richard Branson's secretary, Penni; an interview with Stephen Jones, maker of fine hats; and more. There's little distinction between the ads and edit; except the photo-essays, most everything is printed full-page. The center spread is a Calvin Klein Obsession ad that measures 40x28-inches. Edited by David Colby, Wilhelm Moser, Eugen Michel, Peter Heintz, and Johno du Plessis. Unbound and unpaginated [44] pages, of heavy "book paper" stock; color and b&w illustrations throughout; 19.5 x 27.5 inches. Text is mostly in English with some articles also in German. Due to size and weight, international and expedited shipping may be more than quoted.…
