Aggiungi al carrelloComplete set of four matching exhibition catalogs for a staggered series of installations by avant-garde film director Robert Breer, held at the Galeria Bonino in New York between 1965 and 1970. The first catalog is for an exhibition at the gallery titled "Constructions and Films," and was held in early 1965, noted as Exhibition… No. 10. The other three catalogs deal with exhibitions of Breer's "floats," three-dimensional geometric shapes that the director would construct, then roll down a street as one would a float in a parade-though typically Breer chose rural roads as a means of offsetting the sheer modernity of his objects. Each catalog ends with a list of Breer's exhibitions to date. These three exhibitions, titled "Floats," "More Floats," and "93 Floats," were held at the gallery in 1966, 1967, and 1970, and are labeled Exhibition Nos. 18, 29, and 44, respectively. All four volumes Near Fine or better, each in saddle stapled wrappers, with light occasional rubbing.

Aggiungi al carrelloNo Binding. Condizione: Fine. Film. 16mm. Just under two minutes duration. Breer: maker of what might be the first kinetic artist's book (1955), follower of Han Richter's kinestic film scrolls from early in the 20th century, together with those of the latter's friend Viking Eggeling.Breer's own delightfully imaginative animation… films and objects/multiples and books consistently have the lightness of touch that's achieved with such difficulty for (by) serious artists. A lovely film in near perfect condition given by Breer to an organizer at the Drury Lane Arts Lab in the 1960's (signed on the film can strip in ink). While birds can be heard singing a shrill song, lines crisscross wildly as if they were aiming to form shapes. Their effort seems hopeless until at long last they manage to come t oether and become a man walking his dog.but they soon break up and form the word.END.

There was a limited edition of 11 copies, which was exactly the same but was numbered and signed, and sprayed blue. It goes for around £3500 on ABE.used to be £6000! Motorized plas…tic sculpture in stencilled original cardboard box. Unopened. Dated the year after Breer's seminal work on the Pepsi Pavilion, created by Experiments in Design and Technology (E.A. T). This is a miniaturized version of those largs "floats" that would parade around autonomously. Comes with an original handwritten letter about placing his works with the London Filmmakers Co-operative. Like the big models, every time this little moving sculpture bumps into something it changes course. A robot, a friend. Mint in new condition original box with slight dent on box corner.

Aggiungi al carrelloCondizione: Near Fine. First Edition. Publisher's stiff printed wraps bound by two black plastic screws. First edition. Near Fine with very faint creasing to front wrap, a little shelf wear to rear wrap. From the collection of "design guru" and notable collector of postmodern objects Jim Walrod with his emboss on the first page.… This rare flipbook was produced for the Manchester band New Order, whose avant-garde dance music epitomized the postmodern blending of high and mass culture, for one of their biggest hits: the moody techno song "Blue Monday." Copies were sent out for friends of the Hacienda, Factory Records' head honcho Tony Wilson's Situationist-inspired nightclub. It was co-designed by William Wegman, famous for his portraits of his own dogs. Filmmaker Robert Breer created an animation of one of Wegman's Weimaraners to be flipped through (presumably along with the song) in a kind of "manual video." Music videos were all the rage at the time. Madchester, Wegman's Weimaraners, Factory Records, music videos, The Hacienda-- peak '80s style was achieved here.

Aggiungi al carrelloCondizione: Near Fine. Limited Edition, number 9/10. Motorized plastic sculpture in stenciled and spray-painted cardboard box. SIGNED and numbered on the battery case door at the base of the sculpture. Apparently a limited edition release of the more common white Float sculpture also issued by MoMA via their gift shop. The spray…-painted stencil reads "E.A.T. / BLUE / 9-10 / R.B. '71". Dated a year after his seminal work on the Pepsi Pavilion, created by Experiments in Design and Technology (E.A.T.). In addition to the animations for which he is best known, Robert Breer also created a series of "floats", motorized abstract shapes that he would parade, often through rural landscapes. This MoMA edition represents a miniaturized version of the Float sculpture series. Manufactured by Bandai, the Japanese plastic toy producer. Sculpture tested, but not working, otherwise appears near fine. Box with long, closed tear at the top fold, some creases, and overall signs of light wear. Scarce. Signed.

Aggiungi al carrelloParis: Galerie Denise Rene. 1955. 12 x 9 cm. Flip book in original black paper covers; approx 100 leaves creating an animated sequence of abstract shapes; very good. First edition, inscribed by Breer to Hans Richter. This book was published for the pioneering "Le Mouvement" exhibition at Galerie Denise Rene, which was the first…kinetic art show in Paris. The American artist Robert Breer (1926-2011) was renowned for his experiments in animation. Known as the "kinetic poet of the avant garde" he worked across many of the great movements of the twentieth century and within a huge array of genres. His films often feature abstract images careering across the screen, a style which is represented in this flip book.Breer first signed with Denise Rene in 1955 and found himself at the epicentre of the Parisian avant garde. Partly inspired by his father's work as an engineer for Chrysler, he found that his art was most successful when it dealt with movement and moved away from painting to film-making and other more kinetic forms. He was a natural fit for "Le Mouvement", in which he and other important avant garde figures such as Victor Vasarelt and Pontus Hulten displayed their experiments in motion and caused an artistic sensation.Provenance: first leaf inscribed by Breer to Hans Richter, the Dadaist painter, film-maker and art historian. As a film-maker Breer acknowledged a debt to Richter: "Of course, I was excited to meet Hans; his early abstract "Rhythmus" films from the 1920s, their play with figure and ground, clearly influenced my early "Form Phases" series." (Interview with Michelle Kuo). With note from former owner clarifying provenance.
