Robert Courthope Sims [1720 - 1812] was a physician and botanist who practised at Dumnow in Essex for over 60 years; he was 81 years of age when this notice was printed and lived for a further 11 years. He was a member of the Society of Friends and the father of John Sims, also a physician and botanist, the first editor of Curtis Botanical Magazine after the death of Curtis and a founder member of the Linnean Society.
