Robert Endicott Osgood (1921-1986) was an expert on foreign and military policy, and the author of several significant texts on international relations. He taught at Johns Hopkins University for twenty five years, and also served as an advisor to Ronald Reagan during the latter's 1980 presidential campaign. Osgood attended Harvard University, where he attained his bachelor's degree as well as his doctorate. He also served in World War II. His teaching career began in 1956 when he became assistant professor of political science at the University of Chicago. In 1961 he became Christian A. Herter Professor of American Foreign Policy in the School of Advanced International Studies at Johns Hopkins University. In 1969, he took a leave to serve for a year as a staff aide on the U.S. National Security Council, headed by Henry A. Kissinger, in the Nixon Administration. Osgood directed the Washington Center of Foreign Policy Research at Johns Hopkins University from 1965 to 1973. From 1973 to 1979 he was dean of the School of Advanced International Studies. He served as an advisor during Ronald Reagan's 1980 presidential campaign, and in 1983, Secretary of State George P. Shultz named him to the Policy Planning Council. The Osgood Center for International Relations is named for him. Robert Warren Tucker (born August 25, 1924), an American realist, is a writer and teacher who was Professor Emeritus of American Foreign Policy at the Johns Hopkins University, Nitze School of Advanced International Studies. He is a member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. Tucker was a Marshall Scholar. Tucker received his B.S. from the United States Naval Academy in 1945 and a Ph.D. in Political Science from the University of California, Berkeley, in 1949. He was co-editor of The National Interest from 1985 to 1990, and president of the Lehrman Institute from 1982 to 1987. He has published essays in Foreign Affairs, World Policy Journal, The National Interest, Harpers, and The New Republic. His 1977 book The Inequality of Nations is a highly skeptical analysis of the Third World's efforts to redistribute power and wealth in the international system.
