In 1992 the American Ornithologists' Union in partnership with the Academy of Natural Sciences of Philadelphia undertook the publication of species accounts for each of the more than 700 species which breed in the United States and Canada. These illustrated reviews provide comprehensive summaries of the current knowledge of the species, with range maps and an extensive list of references. The series is complete, in 716 parts. The item number is the unique number for each species account; accounts are numbered in order of publication. Accounts are 8 ½ x 11 inch booklets which include information about distribution, systematics, migration, habitat, sounds, behavior, breeding, appearance, and conservation. This issue is a reprint of the original printing. No stock of the original printingremains. These photographic copies are barely distinguishable from the originals; interior pages are in black & white and lack the blue in graphs and line drawings.

Little staining back cover. Light staining (maybe water) to page edge from about 93--not real noticeable and cover about 1/8th of page. Otherwise wonderful copy for its age. Binding is tight and pages, except as noted above, are clean. This is probably not the first edition (although it appears to be the same front cover) because there are two dates. One on the copyright pages reads 1893, on the title page 1907. Impressive i llustrations.

(William Allen) (illustratore). 1st. full front page engraving showing a small Japanese man in uniform smirking as "Canada" holds out the offended toe & Uncle Sam laughs in the background.this refers to an incident in Japantown, Little Yokohama, or Little Tokyo[1] an old neighbourhood in Vancouver, Canada, British Columbia, north of Chinatown, that had a concentration of Japanese immigrants. It was attacked on 7 September 1907 by the Asiatic Exclusion League, which smashed many windows in parts of Chinatown, and then moved on to Japantown. Japantown received warning of the attacks, and though residents resisted the Asiatic Exclusion League members, considerable damage was done. Suitable for framing Size: 9.5" x 13".
