Die 2003 fertiggestellte Kunsthalle Sankt Annen in Lübeck befindet sich als moderner Bau aus Stahl, Glas und Beton exakt an der Stelle, an der sich einst die 1843 niedergebrannte Klosterkirche Sankt Annen des 1502 1515 errichteten Sankt Annen-Klosters ein Kloster der Augustinerinnen - befand. Fasziniert von diesem besonderen Kunstort entwickelte Kurt Fleckenstein im Rahmen einer Austellung sein Installationskonzept: Der Mast einer Hochspannungsfernleitung wird in das Erdgeschoß der ehemaligen St. Annen-Kirche liegend montiert. Bereits im offenen Vorraum wird der Besucher mit einer ihm bekannten und doch fremden Konstruktion konfrontiert. In der neuen Kunsthalle sind nur noch bedingt Zeichen zu erkennen, die auf die Funktion und Architektur der ehemaligen Kirche hinweisen. Der Mast einer Fernleitung bildet ein Kreuz, welches der Größe des gesamten Kirchenbaus entspricht. Das Kreuz Christi, versinnbildlicht durch eine Konstruktion, die dem nationalen und internationalen Energietransport dient. (Fleckenstein) Der niedergelegte, kreuzförmige Strommast wurde auf diese ungewöhnliche Weise in der ehemaligen Kirche und dem heutigen Museum zu einem physisch und geistig prägnanten Symbol und Zeichen, das zahlreiche gedankliche Spielräume und Assoziationen evozierte und teilweise auch provozierend war.
