Paperback. Condizione: Very Good. Rosalind Miller is an up and coming name in the world of cake designing and decorating; winner of Wedding Cake Designer of the Year for two years running and cupcake and wedding cake stockist for Harrods. And its no wonder. Her cake creations are nothing short of remarkable; beautifully assembled tiers intricately decorated with themes ranging from fairy tales to Georgian architecture to Art Deco motifs. Each is graphically balanced in a way that echoes Rosalinds past as a design lecturer at Central St Martins School of Art. This book is a luxuriously produced inspiration and how-to of high end wedding cake making and decorating. With clear instructions and beautiful step-by-step photography it takes the cake maker through the construction of each individual sugar flower and decoration, with further mood-boards and tips for creating more personalized wedding cake designs. Rosalinds warm personal voice makes the journey that much more enjoyable. Starting with cupcakes, baking has been on an inexorable rise for the past five years, and has never been so trendy. This book is beautifully presented; bound in fabric with a sprayed foredge and different paper stocks, and will be a must-have for the more ambitious cake enthusiast. The book has been read, but is in excellent condition. Pages are intact and not marred by notes or highlighting. The spine remains undamaged.…

Aggiungi al carrelloHardcover. Condizione: Good. No Jacket. Here is "Gertrude Stein: Form and Intelligibility" by Rosalind S. Miller, as published in 1949 by the Exposition Press. Contains the First Public appearance of Stein's "Radcliffe Manuscript". 1949 edition. This is a deaccessioned library book. (X - LIB) This early critical study of Gertrude Stein is especially important for it's inclusion of Stein's "Radcliffe Manuscripts". In her introduction to "The Radcliffe Manuscripts" Miller states : |> In 1939 when the shadows if war were settling over Europe, Gertrude Stein sent her original manuscripts to Thornton Wilder, who, in turn, to ensure their further protection, deposited them with the Yale Library, where they are now in the American Literature Collection. The collection consists of the published and unpublished works of the author. Most of the writing had been done in the small black copybooks - each page filled with the large, scrawling, often illegible handwriting of Gertrude Stein. |> There is a vast amount of provocative material for the Stein scholar to work with; for me the most interesting of all the manuscripts were the Radcliffe themes, which were written in 1894 - 1895 when Miss Stein, a student at Radcliffe College, was taking the well-known English Composition 22 course under the instruction of William Vaughn Moody. These themes constitute Miss Stein's earliest writing. At first glance it may be said that these are the themes thousands of college freshmen wrote and are still writing. But on closer analysis the material s more significant than the hackneyed conventional themes which ruin and enfeeble the mind of the college English teacher. This book is not a scholarly critique for the specialized student; not only was it written fir the average reader who has never read her work but who is familiar with the name of Gertrude Stein and the legends that have sprung up about her, but also for the reader who has found Miss Stein's books difficult and often unintelligible. If this volume can help the reader approach Miss Stein's writing with more insight, it will have served its purpose. I intend this work only as a guide which should be used in conjunction with Gertrude Stein's books. Although Miss Stein has had a long literary career, there has been very little critical writing about her. Miss Stein's literary output -- books, articles, privately printed pamphlets and unfinished manuscripts -- totals several hundred items. Even in a critical discussion such as this, it was impossible to discuss or mention them all. I have chosen what I consider her most representative work. <| TITLE : Gertrude Stein: Form and Intelligibility (Includes Stein's "Radcliffe Themes") AUTHOR : Rosalind S.
