A work by George Rose (1744-1818), being his political observation on the historical writings of Charles James Fox (1749-1806), to which… he adds a second work by Sir Patrick Hume, 1st Earl of Marchmont (1641-1724): a narrative of Argyll's Rebellion in 1685 (which also includes a 78-page appendix with supporting materials). Sir Patrick Hume had been a participant in Argyll's Protestant rebellion, collaborating with Archibald Campbell, 9th Earl of Argyll. This narrative was amongst the family papers which were given by Hugh Hume-Campbell, 3rd Earl of Marchmont, to George Rose.

Leather bound hard cover with gilt titles on spine and minimal cover wear evident apart from front spine hinge very slight exposure, and roughened spine ends. There is faded inscription on title page dated April 1810, and a book plate inside the front cover - Presented by… A W Page in 1923 to Bath Public Reference Library, but none of the usual lending library stamps. Surprisingly clean interior with xxxvi, 215 pages (George Rose) and 67 further pages (Patrick Hume) and lxxx pages of appendices. Published in 1809 this volume is in very good to near fine condition.
