In his oeuvre the primarily conceptual artist combines jewellery with video, photography and performance. One focus of his work deals with processes of transform…ation and experiment - pieces disappear through chemical dissolution, and form is determined by agencies of growth in nature. Stach works with means of alienation and irritation. Ground amber serves as pigment, which he works into jewellery pieces in the form of fish fingers, sliced bread or schnitzel. Obwohl auch hier die olympische Idee "Dabeisein ist alles" im Vordergrund steht, sind die ausgelobten Ehrenpreise von insgesamt 25.000,- DM sowie der mit 20.000,- DM dotierte Danner-Preis gewiß ein zusätzlicher Anreiz, um sich diesem künstlerischen Leistungsvergleich zu stellen. Inzwischen wurde der Danner-Wettbewerb zum fünften Mal durchgeführt. 12 Jahre sind ein relativ kurzer Zeitraum, und doch hat sich im Kunsthandwerk vieles verändert. Stand 1984 die Funktion des Gegenstandes noch unangefochten im Mittelpunkt, hat sich das Kunsthandwerk heute in vielen Bereichen von diesem Kriterium gelöst. Es zeigt sich immer deutlicher, daß die Grenzen zwischen angewandter und freier Kunst zunehmend durchgängiger werden. Das soll allerdings nicht bedeuten, daß die Funktion und der Gebrauchswert der Qualität eines kunsthandwerklichen Gegenstands von vornherein abträglich wären. Einem solchen Mißverständnis, das sehr oft in die Irre führt, begegnet man leider in zunehmendem Maß. Auch im Rahmen dieses Wettbewerbs waren Beispiele dieser Art anzutreffen. Mit einer Teilnahme von insgesamt 383 Kunsthandwerkerinnen und Kunsthandwerkern wurde ein neuer Rekord in der Geschichte des Danner-Preises erzielt.
