Light wear to board and spine extremities. No date, c1900, Folio size; printed on stiff art paper. Tight binding. All page edges are tipped in bright gold. Each page is outlined in red (very thin and tasteful), 16 color and 2 b&w illustrations are laid out attractively in a variety of shapes. Pastedowns and fly pages are dark blue with a gold leaf pattern and in excellent condition. This volume has survived the years as almost new. Gift quality.

A very lovely edition of this most beloved comedy of manners from the late eighteenth century. The illustrations capture that period as it was seen through the rose-tinted lens of the vogue for it a century later. soilage on boards. A tear about 1.5 inches on upper spine gutter. Corners worn, and some other shelfwear. Hinge shaken. Some light scattered foxing, afflicting a few page corners somewhat more heavily. A good copy nonetheless.
