Collated complete.This work was written by Francis Jameson Rowbotham and provides biographies on a selection of great artists such as George Romney, John Constable, Joshua Reynolds and Joseph Mallord William Turner. The work discusses their lives and their artwork, with illustrations depicting their work. Bound in half calf with cloth to the boards. Prize binding. Externally very smart with rubbing to the extremities and joints, slight minor marks to the boards and spine and slight fading to the spine. Prize bookplate to the front pastedown from the 'Edinburgh Academy' for drawing. Internally firmly bound with bright and generally clean pages with the odd spot. Very Good Indeed. book.

Actually, John Hampden was a Christian polemicist and leading advocate of Rowbotham. Hampden gained notoriety engaging in raucous public debates with endorsed scientists of the day. A bet involving the prominent naturalist Alfred Russel Wallace in the famous Bedford Level experiment led to several lawsuits. Full title: "Zetetic Astronomy. Earth Not A Globe.
