Very good condition with some normal handling wear, light age toning, and scattered foxing to the margins consistent with its age. The wrappers remain intact and firmly bound, showing only mild rubbing to the edges and spine folds. The interior pages are generally clean, with rich impressions of the illustrations retaining their full tonal range. The frontispiece, printed by Hermann Silwar's renowned Berlin workshop, is especially vivid. Overall, this is a well-preserved and complete example of an important early German design publication, seldom found in such sound, unrestored state. Issued in 1915 as a Beilage (supplement) to the March issue of Das Plakat, Neue Deutsche Buchillustration was compiled and edited by art historian Rudolf Bleistein for the Verein der Plakatfreunde, the Society of Poster Lovers in Berlin. It presents a survey of contemporary German book art on the eve of modernism, featuring work by illustrators such as Ernst Aufseeser and others experimenting with Jugendstil and expressionist line. The catalogue demonstrates the transition from late Art Nouveau ornament to the clean, structural aesthetic that would later define German graphic design.
