The covers are worn and the spines brittle with minor loss at the tops and bottoms, and a 1.5-inch piece missing from the bottom of the spine of Vol.1, also a tasteful bookplate in each volume. After his journey as the secretary of the French envoy to Russia - witnessing the dethronement and death of Peter III. and the accession of Catherine II. In St. Petersburg in 1762. He was charged with writing a history of Poland. The Court of Russia, having been informed of his writings made several efforts to suppress the manuscript of the finished chapters, which the author had intended for private circulation. Rulhiere promised the Russians that his work would be published only after the death of Catherine II. His "Histoire de l`Anarchie de Pologne", published for the first time posthumously in 1807 is important because it is one of the few valuable sources not destroyed in the Revolution.
