Paperback. Condizione: new. Paperback. For much of the 20th century, critique played an important part in what was considered "modern" architecture; the canon of modern architecture considered itself dedicated to both formal progress and social critique. But as the 1960s spurred a rereading of modern architecture from a perspective informed by Marxism and the decade's new social movements, many concluded that a building practice could not be critical, owing to its interdependent relationship with power and business. With recent economic crises hitting the building and property sectors, and research playing an increasingly large role in architectural practice, we are witnessing a renewed interest in critique in contemporary architecture, especially from postcolonial and feminist positions. The essays contained in this book, authored by a variety of international architects and thinkers, address this revived moment of critique, arguing that, far from being dead, architectural critique is now indispensable. Text: Iva Cukic / Ministry of Space, Liza Fior, Eyal Weizman / Forensic Architecture, Gabu Heindl, Ana Jeinic, Michael Klein, Christina Linortner, Johannes Pointl / Nina Kolowratnik, Jane Rendell, Ruth Sonderegger, Pelin Tan, Matteo Trentini Shipping may be from multiple locations in the US or from the UK, depending on stock availability.

Paperback. Condizione: new. Paperback. Is art criticism losing ground to the Internet and its rapidly proliferating art blogs? Do people still consider the art critics employed by newspapers and magazines the most important arbitrators of what is worth seeing and reading? Much recent discussion about the changing landscape of art writing, often framed as a crisis in criticism, has revolved around the question, "what is art criticism?" "Spaces for Criticism," edited by Pascal Gielen, asks instead, "where is art criticism?" The contributors to this volume explore new ways and new spaces where art critics might interact with works of art, artists, scholars and a varied, increasingly informed public. The authors argue that criticism has shifted to different places and different stages, experiencing both a displacement onto new media and into new geographic regions and new institutional structures.
