Paperback. Condizione: Very Good. This book presents a framework for understanding moral and political philosophy based on a multi-dimensional understanding of human nature. Author James Rutherford graduated from Harvard University and did his post-graduate work at the Ohio State University College of Medicine and at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York City. He says that none of the philosophical perspectives presented over the past 100 years have given a coherent view of the whole. This book aims to bring coherence to moral and political philosophy.…

No other American POW camp received as much publicity as Andersonville, with the U.S. Department of War even circulating photographs of emaciated prisoners, which were reprinted in history texts. Seldom did there appear a mention of the fact that Union soldiers imprisoned there received the same medical care and rations as Confederate soldiers in the field. While there has been much written about Andersonville, this book presents seldom-seen documentation from Confederates familiar with the camp, as well as discussions by contemporary historians. This book is an effort to clarify the troubling questions that remain about the camp: How could this tragedy have happened? And who was to blame? fine. Book. …

Eisenhower, presided over the transformation of the United States from a fragile agrarian republic into a continental power and then a global superpower. Washington established the precedents of the office, including the cabinet system and the voluntary surrender of power after two terms. The early presidents from Adams through John Quincy Adams, most of them Virginians or Adamses, defined the limits of federal authority, doubled the nationâs territory through the Louisiana Purchase, and confronted the strains of the War of 1812. Andrew Jacksonâs election ushered in mass democracy and a more assertive executive, while the antebellum presidents struggled, and largely failed, to contain the sectional conflict over slavery. Abraham Lincoln preserved the Union through civil war and ended slavery, and the Reconstruction and Gilded Age presidents who followed wrestled with the unfinished work of emancipation and the rise of industrial capitalism. Roosevelt then led the country through the Great Depression and the Second World War, serving an unprecedented four terms before the Twenty-second Amendment limited the office to two. Harry S. Truman and Eisenhower, in turn, shaped the postwar order, committing the United States to containment of the Soviet Union and to a standing role in international affairs.…
