It was the first Italian book with a systematic treatment of the openings and other phases of match. It was widely distributed and had various expansions and re-editions. Salvioli was also a composer of studies of the first order. He published around 60 studies, many of which received various awards. Salvioli was passionate about classical music, a talented pianist as well as a philanthropist (he left all his assets to the then Congregation of Charity from which the Mirano hospital later arose).
