Solida legatura coeva in mezza pelle con punte, fregi, filetti e titoli in oro su tassello al dorso. Qualche segno d'uso alla legatura e due carte mancanti fra le preliminari (pp. v-viiii), altrimenti genuino, marginoso e ben conservato. L'opera è dedicata a Carlo Oppizzoni, principe, cardinale e arcivescovo di Bologna. Il quadro di Odevaere Fiammingo (pensionato all'Accademia di Francia) raffigura Leone III nell'atto di prostrarsi ai piedi di Carlo Magno dopo averlo incoronato imperatore. Two volumes bound together in full brown leather with extensive gilt stamped design on front, rear and spine with coat of arms on front and rear covers, all edge gilt; navy and pink illustrated end papers, missing frontispiece, IV, (20), 407 pp with 13 bw plates, 2 engraved title pages and smaller engraved vignettes throughout. The second book has a bw engraved frontispiece, VIII, 71 pp, 2 additional full page engravings. First book has bw plates on pages 27, 49, 55, 61, 67, 73, 85, 93, 167, 249, 305, 329, 334 (343). Text is in Latin with explanatory notes in Italian. The second book is very scarce, text is in Italian - "Method of Life for Young People of the Congregation and Meeting of S. Maria del Pianto Dedicated to the Most Illustrious, Alessandro Maria Tassoni Auditor of Our Lord and President of the Archiconfraternity of Christian Doctrine by Monsignor Antonio Santelli Roman Priest Deputy Of The Same"- title page translation. First book is OCLC 32055921 and the second book is OCLC956153029. VG (Covers are very clean, binding is tight, pages lightly age toned as expected with age of book and have light foxing spots, plate on page 167 of first volume has a large stain that bleeds through several pages before and after, text and illustrations are otherwise very clean and clear).
