Der erste ist überwiegend eine Kompilation… von historischen Erzählungen für die Jahre 1001-1442, der zweite eine ausführliche Darstellung des Konflikts zwischen Zürich und Schwyz, des sog. Alten Zürichkriegs (1436-1450), die jedoch 1444 abbricht. Früher dachte man an die Familie Klingenberg als Urheber der Chronik (daher der Name). Autor war vermutlich der Rapperswiler Stadtschreiber Eberhard Wüst.

'Tschudis Codex' : "Neben Wappen und Fahnen [.] sind ein paar kräftige gesunde Federzeichnungen, z.B. die Schlacht bei Sempach mit Winkelried's Opfertode und bei der am Stoss ein derber Fahnenträger. Facsimile 4 und 5. Die Schrift (Facs. Nr. 1 und 5) ist eine starke, hübsche" (p. XI; vgl. J. VI). Zu deren Urheberschaft vgl. Hennes Diskussion pp. V-XI, 'Eberhart Wüst' erw. p. VIII - Die anonym verfasste Klingenberger Chronik wurde um die Mitte des 15. Jahrhunderts angelegt. "Der Verfasser hat aus der Zürcher Chronik [von ca. 1420] geschöpft, stimmt bis 1400 mit ihr fast wörtlich überein, geht dann aber von 1400 an eigene Wege und wird wertvoll. Er stellt ausführlich den Appenzeller Krieg [1401-1429] dar und gibt vom Alten Zürichkrieg [1436-1450] einen sehr guten Bericht [.]. Der Standpunkt ist gemässigt österreichisch, für den Adel, gegen die Schweizer Bauern. Aegidius Tschudi [.] schrieb sie in seiner fabelnden Art den Herren von Klingenberg zu [.]. Der falsche Name ist geblieben. [.] Sie ist das unentbehrliche Gegenstück zu Fründ, [.]." (Feller/Bonjour, loc. cit.; "Henne behandelt sie ziemlich kritiklos", p. 46) - Dierauer nennt den Codex Sangallensis 645 als Hennes Quelle (Bd. 2, 5. Aufl. 1920, Fussnote p. 55); Henne selbst spricht von "einem aus dem aufgehobenen Kloster Pfävers [Pfäfers] in unser Archiv gekommenen [.] Tschudi'schen Codex" (p. IV), bzw. "Chronik der Klingenberger [.], und zwar Tschudi's eigenes Exemplar" mit dessen hs. Vermerk 'Clingenbergs' (p. V). Beigezogen hat Henne vier weitere Abschriften: 1. die sog. Sprengersche Chronik in Zürich, 2. den St. Galler Codex 608, 3. eine Handschrift der Vadiana, und 4. die sog. Hüply'sche Chronik in Zürich (p. IX f.) -- Eberhard Wüest : Erstmals erw. 1422, letztmals 1444, von Rapperswil SG. Verheirateter Kleriker des Bistums Konstanz, u.a. Stadtschreiber von Rapperswil mit notarieller Tätigkeit z.B. für Schwyz und Glarus. "Die Chronik stellt den Kräften der rechtmässigen Ordnung (Reich, Österreich und Adel) die Eidgenossen und ihre Verbündeten als Kräfte der Unordnung gegenüber. Sie ist damit das ideologische Gegenstück zur zeitgleichen Chronik des Schwyzer Landschreibers Hans Fründ" (HLS, Wüest) - Josef Anton Henne (Sargans 1798-1870 Wolfhalden), von Sargans.
