Soft cover. Condizione: Near Fine. 1st Edition. Stated First Edition. This book is in very nice condition. You can see the covers in the photos. The white front covers very clean. So is the spine and the rear. I don't see any wear on the covers. The top and middle page edges have some very light amber foxing. A tiny bit of that peeks over the outer middle edge of the title page. That does not appear to be the case with any of the other pages. There is also a speck of a spot at the middle of the title page. Scrolling through the pages, not seeing any other instances of spots, small or large. The pages are also nicely bright white. I don't see any toning. There isn't any conspicuous creasing, no turned-down corners or placeholder creases. There are no markings. No attachments. And no one has written their name or anything else anywhere. The binding of the book is very solid. The pages are nicely tight throughout and the covers are nicely tight as well. There are 106 pages. The last ten or photographs. There is also not on page 30. All of the photographs and the map are in excellent condition. From the front inside cover: 'Even before World War II started, Albania was a haven for Jews escaping from the Nazis. Untold thousands were able to get visas to pass through or stay in Albania. Jews have lived in Albania since the start of the Common Era with the last influx at the end of the 19th century. When the Nazis asked for a list of Jews, in 1943, the Albanian puppet government refused, and Jews went into hiding. Albanian Jews, and others who were fortunate enough to get into Albania, were hidden by Albanian Moslems and Christians and all escaped the Holocaust. Until recently, the closed Balkan country of Albania followed an isolationists policy and no one outside the country reported the noble deeds. In 1991, the majority of the Jewish community moved to Israel. They brought with them documents attesting to the wondrous rescue by the Albanian people, who just now are receiving the honors they have well earned.'.

NO remainder marks. Includes a few black and white photo reproductions [From jacket flaps] Poland was one of the many Soviet Satellites that followed "Big Brothers" lead in recognizing the State of Israel in 1948. Likewise, after the Six Day War, Poland followed the Soviet lead and withdrew its recognition of the State of Israel and unilaterally broke diplomatic relations. For a period of almost 25 years there were no diplomatic relations between Israel and Poland. As the cold war thawed, a "charge' d' affairs" was appointed in each country as a step towards restoring full diplomatic relations. The next step was the exchange of ambassadors. When Professor Jan Dowgiallo was appointed Poland's first ambassador in 25 years, he also became the first non-communist to represent Poland in Israel. The Polish Foreign Service, like that of the other Soviet Satellites, was staffed with loyal Communist Party members or workers. The selection of ambassadors, when Poland evicted "Big Brother", was complicated by the fact the ambassadors representing Poland were communists. The new regime in Poland decided to select non-communists from academia as its representatives. They selected educators and scientists who had experience living abroad, spoke multiple languages, and were anti-communists or at least not communists. Professor Jan Dowgiallo, a world renown geologist at the Polish Academy of Science, who had served the World Health Organization in North Yemen and the U.N. in India, was selected to serve as his country's ambassador to the Scandinavian countries. Dowgiallo accepted the assignment as an ambassador but elected to serve in Israel and the Foreign Ministry agreed. His stated reasoning was that if he was going to take leave from his research it would have to be a meaningful and challenging assignment.
