Seán Ó Súilleabháin, the former archivist for the Irish Folklore Commission, described her as "one of the greatest woman storytellers of recent times". Over several years from 1938 Peig dictated 350 ancient legends, ghost stories, folk stories, and religious stories to Seosamh Ó Dálaigh of the Irish Folklore Commission. The book is a story of her life on the island told in the same manner as she did her tales and legends. A clean very presentable copy.

Prima edizione
Hardcover. Condizione: Near Fine. Condizione sovraccoperta: Very Good. 1st Edition. Syracuse University Press, Syracuse, NY. 1974. 212 pages. First American edition; first printing. Book is about fine. Bright, tight and clean. Binding and hinges are strong and sound. Green cloth panels are bright and clean. Pages and endpapers are clean; no writing within aside from a tiny previous owner's name neatly written on top edge of FFEP. Original DJ shows light rubbing along edges. This is the now-classic memoir of noted Irish folklorist, Peig Sayers, in which she describes her childhood immersed in traditional Munster Irish-speaking culture, rack-renting Anglo-Irish landlords that resulted in extreme poverty, the coercive Anglicization of the educational system, devout Catholicism, and a mass emigration to the New World; or the American wake. Near fine/VG. First American edition; first printing.
