Aggiungi al carrelloHardcover. Condizione: New. Condizione sovraccoperta: New. 1st Edition. Now hard to find in this collectable edition. A stunning and timely edition, with a special introduction by Thomas Karshan. Nabokov's first love was poetry, and his fascination for it was something he pursued all his life. By incorporating poetry into his novels, most notably in Pale Fire, he probably sent many of his readers off in search of his poetry collections. The Shade poems from Pale Fire are not included in this collection, perhaps because Nabokov was consciously adopting the voice of another character. But what is refreshing about this volume is the new translations from the Russian by Nabokov's son, Dmitri. This is a fabulous volume containing work that is decidedly 'modern' but easily accessible. It is enormously enjoyable. Always clever, frequently charming, this is a delightful volume for poetry lovers everywhere. It is essential for Nabokov fans. Protected jacket, first hardback printing, and unread.

Aggiungi al carrelloHardcover. Condizione: New. Condizione sovraccoperta: New. 1st Edition. When this definitive complete edition was launched Faber issued a separately printed stiff card of the poem 'POSTSCRIPT' exclusively for the first 100 (or was it 200?) people who ordered it. Luckily I was one of those! 'More than any other poet since Wordsworth he can make us understand that the outside world is not outside, but what we are made of.' John CareyThis is the long-awaited, definitive edition of Seamus Heaney's poetry. It encompasses all the poems Heaney published in his lifetime as well as the small number that appeared after his death: twelve single volumes, from Death of a Naturalist (1966) to Human Chain (2010), and those poems published in pamphlets, journals and magazines or with limited circulation. In addition, the book includes a selection of unpublished material chosen by the poet's family. It is a body of work that, in its entirety, resounds with the 'lyrical beauty and ethical depth' cited by the Nobel committee: poems 'which exalt everyday miracles and the living past.'Critical introductions to each collection and notes that illuminate the history and development of the poems make this the essential volume for admirers of Heaney's work.'Heaney's voice, by turns mythological and journalistic, rural and sophisticated, reminiscent and impatient, stern and yielding, curt and expansive, is one of a suppleness almost equal to consciousness itself.' Helen Vendler'His is "closeup" poetry - close up to thought, to the world, to the emotions. Few writers at work today, in verse or fiction, can give the sense of rich, fecund, lived life that Heaney does.' John Banville 'These poems find - in the dowser's gift and the child's perception of the world - images of the marvellous that are also wonderfully grounded. . . Heaney is a poet who deserves to be read in entirety.' Jamie McKendrick'For Heaney, there were marvels enough in this world, and never mind the next. Ordinary objects and places - a sofa, a wireless, a satchel, a gust of wind, the sound of rain - were sanctified.' Blake Morrison Here is the definitive edition of Seamus Heaney's poetry, with illuminating critical notes, including a substantial number of uncollected poems and a selection of poems never published before.

First Edition, First Printing. Octavo, xii, 415pp, [1]. Blue cloth, title stamped in gilt. The first printing, with no additional printings noted on copyright page. In the publisher's dust jacket, retail price clipped on the front flap, light shelf wear, old tape repairs to verso, bright illustrations, a near fine example. In The Shadow Of Lincoln's Death follows an earlier work by Eisenschiml, titled Why Was Lincoln Murdered?, which argues that Abraham Lincoln's assassination was part of a broader conspiracy rather than the act of a lone actor. Eisenschiml presents evidence suggesting that John Wilkes Booth, along with other conspirators, had connections to influential individuals who opposed Lincoln's policies. Secretary of War Edwin M. Stanton is implicated in the plot. (Monaghan, 3561) Both books have been largely discredited by historians. Signed.
