Nabokov's first love was poetry, and his fascination for it was something he pursued all his life. This brilliant book, with vivid first edition quality colour reproductions, is still wonderful for the collector. It has been well loved, but also well used. No marks on the plates. Glossy Pictorial Cover is inset with an illustration but it is a bit damaged, and the cloth spine is weak. Inside are thirty six coloured illustrations by the wonderful Frank Adams, and all the plates are superb, reproduced splendidly on good quality smooth art paper. Some foxing to endpapers and title page because of the different quality of paper. Some loose pages and edge rubbing. BUT - this is a very rare volume indeed. Daugherty (1860-1941) served as Attorney General of the United States under Presidents Warren G. Harding and Calvin Coolidge. Daugherty worked as Harding's campaign manager at the Republican National Convention, securing his nomination as Attorney General. The Harding administration dealt with many controversies, including the "Ohio Gang" and the Teapot Dome scandal. Daugherty was under investigation for federal corruption twice and was forced to resign in 1924.
