A five volume set of works by Joseph Victor von Scheffel. This set contains; 'Der Trompeter von Sackingen' is an humorous epic poem, which was very popular upon its publication, published in 1882. 'Ekkehard' is a sentimental historical novel, set in a tenth century monastery of St Gall, published in 1882. 'Frau Aventiure' is a collection of verse, published in 1879. 'Gaudeamus' is a collection of student songs, published in 1882. 'Juniperus', published in 1878. Joseph Victor von Scheffel was a German poet and novelist. His mother was a poet, and though he originally trained in law, Scheffel eventually decided to resign and travel, painting and turning his mind to literature. He was also a librarian to Prince Furstenberg, at Donaueschingen. Scheffel was a very popular author during his life, and enjoyed a lot of praise from readers and critics. Illustrated by Anton von Werner, a popular German painter. He was known for his historical paintings of political and military events in Prussia. 'Juniperus' with nineteen in-text illustrations and eight plates. 'Der Trompeter von Säckingen' and 'Frau Aventiure' with illustrated title pages.
