Hardback. Condizione: New. This publication draws on sales catalogues and advertising brochures documenting the entire range of Ikora metalwork produced by WMF (Württembergische Metallwarenfabrik AG, Geislingen) from the early 1920s until the 1960s. Even during the first world war, Hugo Debach, who would later become director-general of WMF, took the initiative in having experiments conducted in chemical and thermal tinting of metals. Shortly before 1927 he founded the Neue Kunstgewerbliche Abteilung (NKA: New Division for the Applied Arts) at WMF for upgrading metals. The brilliant colours and the boundless possibilities for design arising from this new technique met with resounding success at the time. Now pieces of Ikora metalwork by WMF are coveted as valuable collectors' items. The name Ikora, borrowed from a plant with brilliantly-hued flowers endemic to South-east Asia and sacred to the goddess Ixora, was designed to express the costly and exclusive quality of this line in metal products. ?Text in English and German.…

hardcover. Condizione: Near Fine. First Edition. Publication: Stuttgart, Arnoldsche Art Publishers, 2003 Formatting: 4to, pp. 200. Condition Report: Near Fine. This copy is securely bound in its original glossy pictorial boards, with the binding remaining exceptionally tight and perfectly square. The exterior boards are bright and immaculate, showing virtually no shelf-wear, rubbing, or bumping to the corners or spine ends. Internally, the text block is pristine; the pages remain crisp, clean, and entirely free from toning, foxing, or handling marks, ensuring the numerous illustrations and historical reproductions are vividly presented. A remarkably well-preserved, collector-quality copy. Catalogue Note: This is the first edition, first printing of this comprehensive reference work, published in a dual-language format (German and English). The book was issued without a dust jacket, intended to be presented in its durable, high-gloss pictorial boards. Profusely illustrated with both contemporary colour photographs and historical reproductions from original company catalogues, this volume serves as an indispensable visual archive. While the edition remains relatively accessible on the open market, finding copies in such immaculate, unblemished condition is highly desirable for serious collectors of twentieth-century decorative arts and glasswork. Drawing extensively upon contemporary advertising and original sales catalogues, this authoritative volume offers the first exhaustive survey of the Ikora and Myra art glass lines produced by Württembergische Metallwarenfabrik AG (WMF) between the 1920s and the 1950s. Initiated under the vision of director general Hugo Debach, these lines encompassed both unique 'Unika' masterpieces and mass-produced art glass, swiftly earning public acclaim following their debut at the Württembergisches Landesmuseum. Beyond exploring the rich historical context of these creations, the book provides collectors with a comprehensive catalogue of WMF products, enabling both the definitive identification of authentic Ikora and Myra pieces and the ability to distinguish them from contemporary imitations by rival manufacturers.
