Corpus Rubenianum Ludwig Burchard XI One remarkable feature of European culture as it developed in the Renaissance was the accommodation it made with ancient paganism. The classical gods and their legends were allegorised, transformed into symbolic figures or emblematic scenes that might accord with Christian morality. At the same time there emerged a new, secular, genre of art devoted to the depiction of the most popular myths, above all the love stories recounted by the ancient poets. These stories were not only attractive in themselves; they offered the opportunity to depict nude figures in narrative action, which the example of antiquity held forth as the highest goal for painting. Rubens was one of the greatest creators of classical allegory; he was also a supreme interpreter of the classical stories. No painter was so at home in the literature of the Greeks and Romans. When he painted for pleasure, which, increasingly in the course of his life, he felt able to do, he used pagan myth to express and celebrate themes of love, beauty and the creative forces of nature, often in wonderfully idiosyncratic ways. Still, as a Christian committed to the ideals of the Catholic Reformation, Rubens respected the restrictions generally placed on the depiction of pagan tales. Most of his mythological paintings were made for private settings, for display within houses (including his own) or in the galleries of princes, noblemen and prelates. It is a happy accident of history that so many of these splendid paintings are now widely visible in the great museums of the world. 0 g.

A better than very good copy, the binding square and firm with a little rubbing and bumping at the extremities. The contents are clean throughout and without previous owner's marks. Scarce, exceptionally so signed. Signed by Kurt Albert in black marker pen on the blank reverse of the front endpaper (the signature slightly offset to the title page). Kurt Albert (1954-2010), German rock climbing legend, recipient of Germany's highest sporting accolade the Siberne Lorbeerblatt, and inventor of the redpoint (rotpunkt) philosophy. In the early 1970's as free climbing was taking its first tentative steps, Albert painted a simple red dot - a Roter Punkt - at the base of the routes in his Frankenjura home to indicate that the line had been climbed without the use of aid, but entirely free. The rotpunkt style ushered in a revolution in rock climbing and soon came to represent the entire free climbing movement, paving the way for the evolution of modern sport climbing. On September 26, 2010 Albert fell to his death in a climbing accident whilst guiding a group of novices and friends in the Frankenjura region. Aggiungi al carrelloBuch. Condizione: Neu. Druck auf Anfrage Neuware - Printed after ordering - The third volume of Leibniz's philosophical letters documents the critical period when he first disclosed his philosophical system to the general public. This took place in two papers published around 1695, the 'Specimen dynamicum' and the 'Système nouveau,'whose basic theses were a subject of discussion in multiple letters (including Leibniz's correspondence with de Volder and Wagner).; Der dritte Band des philosophischen Briefwechsels umfasst die Jahre von 1695 bis einschließlich 1700.
