(pp. 5?10), Pfarrer Jakob Scherer, Büron, die Festpredigt in der Schlacht Kapelle (pp. 13?31). ? ?Grossen Einfluss übte die Darstellung der Tat Winkelrieds durch Johannes von Müller aus, dessen auf Tschudi beruhende ?Geschichten der Schweizer? (ab 1780) einem didaktisch-patriotischen Ziel verpflichtet waren. In den vaterländischen Schriften der Aufklärung erscheint Winkelried vollends als Nationalheiliger. Während der Helvetik und Mediation wurde er sowohl von den Vertretern der neuen wie auch der alten Ordnung vereinnahmt. [.] In Stans wurde zu Ehren Winkelrieds 1865 das von Lukas Ferdinand Schlöth geschaffene Denkmal eingeweiht, während in Sempach bereits ein Jahr früher ein Stein mit Inschrift errichtet worden war. Als nationales Symbol für die Opferbereitschaft im Namen der Freiheit erlebte die Figur des Winkelried im 20. Jahrhundert in der Geistigen Landesverteidigung einen nächsten Höhepunkt.
