Hardcover. Condizione: Neu. How significant is it for the reality of our everyday life that social conditions worldwide are characterised by glaring inequality in that 20% of the world's population own over 80% of the world's wealth and some 24,000 people die of hunger every day? Probably not very significant, since those affected by poverty and hunger are members of different social groups and thus lie outside our everyday focus. At a congress held in November 2012 on the theme of responsibility and justice in the process of globalisation, the Regional Court of Hildesheim and the Parish of Hildesheim-Göttingen in the Lutheran Regional Church of Hanover attempted to broaden our focus and sensitise individuals. This volume makes the proceedings of this congress available to a wider audience. Thorsten Moos examines the question from a theological perspective and takes a self-critical look at the role of religions. Franz Josef Radermacher develops his concept of a world which, even in an age of globalisation, remains in balance, and demands that we turn away from the "absolute short-termism of thought" towards a worldwide eco-social market economy. Jacob Schewe objectively and precisely describes the significance for humanity of global warming, which could have apocalyptic consequences over the next 200 years.…

Taschenbuch. Condizione: Neu. Druck auf Anfrage Neuware - Printed after ordering - The LNCS journal Transactions on Large-Scale Data- and Knowledge-Centered Systems focuses on data management, knowledge discovery, and knowledge processing, which are core and hot topics in computer science. Since the 1990s, the Internet has become the main driving force behind application development in all domains. An increase in the demand for resource sharing across different sites connected through networks has led to an evolution of data- and knowledge-management systems from centralized systems to decentralized systems enabling large-scale distributed applications providing high scalability. Current decentralized systems still focus on data and knowledge as their main resource. Feasibility of these systems relies basically on P2P (peer-to-peer) techniques and the support of agent systems with scaling and decentralized control. Synergy between grids, P2P systems, and agent technologies is the key to data-and knowledge-centered systems in large-scale environments. This, the 10th issue of Transactions on Large-Scale Data- and Knowledge-Centered Systems, contains seven full papers chosen following two additional rounds of reviewing from revised and extended versions of a selection of papers presented at DEXA 2012. Topics covered include formal modelling and verification of web services, incremental computation of skyline queries, the implication problem for XML keys, lossless data compression, declarative view selection methods, time awareness in recommender systems, and network data mining.…
