Auch eine Aufzählung seiner großen Werkaufträge ist im Inventar erhalten. Dieses Verzeichnis lässt noch heute seinen ganzen Reichtum deutlich werden.Das besondere dieses Inventars sind nicht nur die Beschreibungen der Objekte, sondern deren Illustrierung. Alle Liegenschaften nahm Schickhardt kartographisch auf, seine Häuser und die Nebengebäude, ja sogarStälle zeichnete er dreidimensional mit allen Einzelheiten, silberne und goldene Becher, Kelche mit Medaillen, die er verehrt bekam, stellte er koloriert dar, teilte den Wert mit und erwähnte, wenn Dukaten oder Taler eingearbeitet waren. Sogar einen sichelförmigen goldenen Zahnstocher führte er auf.Dieses Inventar eines Bildungsbürgers der Renaissance ist eine kulturgeschichtliche Quelle ersten Ranges. Die Alltagskultur des 16. und 17. Jahrhunderts wird hier lebendig. Besonders interessant ist das Inventar für die Sozial- und Wirtschaftsgeschichte, für die Historische Geographie, für die Kunst-, Architektur- und Technikgeschichte sowie für die Landes-, Sprachund Lokalgeschichte. Ein wichtiger Baustein zur Bildungsgeschichte ist die komplett überlieferte Liste der Bücher Schickhardts, ein in dieser Vollständigkeit einmaliges Zeugnis (mehr als 500 Titel).
