Die genialen Gedankengänge des Darwinismus bauen sich auf empiristicher Grundlage auf und er ist nicht imstande für die an sich richtig erkannten Grundbegriffe und die daraus erfließenden Sätze eine metaphysische Begründung zu geben. Da diese Grundbegriffe durch ihn im zu engen Sinne, d. h. nicht im allgemeinen Sinne, aufgefaßt werden, so war er befähigt einige Fragen des Problems der Artbildung vom empiristischen Standpunkte befriedigend zu beantworten, das große Problem in seinem ganzen Umfange zu lösen, wie man ursprünglich geglaubt hatte, war ihm aus diesen Gründen nicht möglich; er ist eine durchaus nicht unrichtige Lehre, aber zur Lösung der Probleme der Entstehung der Arten und der Evolution ist sie unzureichend. Diese Erkenntnis erweckte die Idee Lamarcks von der direkten Anpassung der Organismen an ihre Umwelt zu neuem Leben (vgl. Neo-Lamarckismus), die auf einem anderen Wege die Lösung des gleichen Problems anstrebt. Von dieser Lehre des Lamarckismus gilt dasselbe, wie vom Darwinismus; auch sie ist eine nicht unrichtige, aber unzulängliche Hypothese. - Wikipedia: Viktor Ferdinand Schiffner, auch Victor Félix Schiffner, (* 10.
