Es ist dies die Zeit des Ersten Weltkrieges, der wie vermutlich kein anderer Krieg auch das Ende einer Ära, den völligen Zusammenbruch eines Werte-und Gesellschaftssystems, mit unbeschreiblicher Härte und Brutalität markiert. Der junge Krleza verbrachte fast das ganze Jahr 1915 als Zivilist in Zagreb, erst im Dezember wurde er mobilisiert. Mit 'Kraljevo' bearbeitet er zunächst den kollektiven Schock des Krieges, überdies aber auch die Eitelkeit und Vergänglichkeit menschlichen Daseins schlechthin. Der Schauplatz des alljährlichen Jahrmarktes 'Kraljevo' kurz vor Ausbruch des Krieges wird dabei als eine Metapher für dieses Dasein modelliert.In der vorliegenden Arbeit soll das Konzept der räumlichen und zeitlichen Gestaltung, das eine solche Metaphorisierung möglich macht, untersucht werden. In diesem Zusammenhang wird auch auf das für Krleza spezifische Weltmodell hinsichtlich der Gestaltung von Raum und Zeit eingegangen werden. Ferner wird die Bedeutung von Raum und Zeit für die Gesamtkonzeption des Stückes erarbeitet werden. Von Interesse ist in diesem Zusammenhang die Frage nach Korrespondenz- und Kontrastrelationen zwischen Raum und Zeit, die eine wichtige Rolle im Stück spielen.Im Zuge der Analyse wird immer wieder auch auf andere Dramenelemente, wie z.B. Figuren und deren Sprache, Bezug genommen werden, da es sich bei der Beschränkung des Themas auf Raum und Zeit natürlich auch um eine heuristische Trennung handelt. Dies gilt auch und in besonderem Maße für die Kategorien Raum und Zeit selbst, da sie wegen ihrer gegenseitigen Bedingtheit sehr stark miteinander verknüpft sind.
