Ausgehend von Novalis' philosophischen Reflexionen zur intersubjektiven Verfaßtheit des Ich wird die poetis…che Konstruktion des Selbst in seinem literarischen Werk herausgearbeitet. Ein zentrales Problem der Subjektivitätsphilosophie, die Vermittlung von Gefühl und Gedanke, wird hier in Motiven der Zweigeschlechtlichkeit des Ich, des Traumbewußtseins sowie der Liebesutopie verhandelt und in eine Ethik der 'Lebenskunst' überführt. Diese Verbindung von Philosophie und Literatur, Ethik und Ästhetik ist Kennzeichen der Romantik-Rezeption nach 1945. Dies wird exemplarisch anhand der Werke Ingeborg Bachmanns, Christa Wolfs und Michel Foucaults gezeigt. Das Interesse der Autorinnen gilt der Überschreitung der Geschlechteropposition in der Frühromantik. Bei Foucault werden ästhetische Widerstandspraktiken im Blick auf die moderne Pluralisierung von Diskurs- und Machtformationen entwickelt. Die Arbeit weist sowohl die Novalis-Rezeption der genannten Autorinnen und Autoren nach, als auch die produktive Fortentwicklung seiner Konzeption unter den Bedingungen einer Literatur und Ethik 'nach Auschwitz'.
