One-inch tear and creasing on dj rear. Businessman Viktor F. Bracht of Düsseldorf landed at Galveston in 1845 as an agent of the Adelsverein (a German nobles' society for colonising Texas). He lived in and owned businesses in several communities during the next few years, including New Braunfels and San Antonio. An inveterate enthusiast, he traveled extensively, saw little about Texas he didn't like, and became a cheerleader for German emigration to the state. During the European upheavals and revolutions of 1848, he wrote and published this volume as an encouragement for ordinary Germans to say "fick dich" to Europe and try their luck in America. Practicing what he preached, he spent much of the rest of his life in Texas, dying there in 1887.

This issue has no structural impact on the book. Dust jacket has some light overall scuffing. Bottom corners have been bumped, as has the bottom of the spine. Top and bottom edges of the spine have some light wear. DJ is now wrapped in brodart for protection. A great overall copy of this text.
