Siegfried Lauterwasser (1913-2000) war einer der wichtigsten Vertreter der Subjektiven Fotografie und seit 1949 Mitglied der avantgardistischen westdeutschen Photographengruppe "fotoform", zu der auch Heinz Hajek-Halke, Otto Steinert, Toni Schneiders u.a. gehörten. 1933 übernahm er das Atelier seines Vaters in Überlingen. Während des Zweiten Weltkrieges war er Bildberichterstatter einer Propagandakompagnie und widmete sich nach dem Krieg der Landschaft und Kunst des Bodenseeraumes. Daneben gilt er auch als bedeutender Bühnenphotograph, er arbeitete u.a. seit 1953 40 Jahre lang bei den Bayreuther und seit 1967 auch bei den Salzburger Festspielen. Ab 1962 wurde er der bevorzugte Photograph Herbert von Karajans. Schneiders (1920-2006) war wie Lauterwasser Mitbegründer von "fotoform". Während des Krieges war auch er Kriegsberichterstatter und nahm in dienstlichem Auftrag an der spektakulären Befreiung Mussolinis am Gran Sasso durch ein Kommandounternehmen unter Otto Skorzeny teil.
