Until 1910, he worked at the Natural History Museum in Brussels, then at the Belgian Congo Museum in Tervuren.In 1911, he founded the Revue de Zoologie et de Botanique africaine.He carried out a first mission in Congo (Mayombe, Équateur, Bas-Congo, Kasaï) between 1921 to 1923, collecting important zoological collections, then a second from 1923 to 1926 in the north and east of Congo (Uele, Iturl , Kivu, Katanga) even richer in discoveries.In Antwerp, he taught zoology at the Colonial University of Belgium, then from 1927 to 1952, medical entomology at the Institute of Tropical Medicine.In 1927, he was also appointed Director of the Belgian Congo Museum, a position he held until 1947.He published with Gaston-François de Witte in 1934 Batrachians collected in the Belgian Congo by Dr H.
