Anbei schicke ich Ihnen das gewünschte Werkeverzeichnis. Es ist eine Auswahl, und zwar Kompositionen, die ich heute noch für öffentliche Aufführunge…n zulassen könnte [.]". Schröder studierte Musikwissenschaft und Komposition in Freiburg bei Julius Weismann und Wilibald Gurlitt, lebte anschließend in Berlin und unternahm Konzertreisen mit alter Musik auf historischen Instrumenten. Wegen seiner Kompositionen für den Großen Arbeiterchor Berlin wurde er 1935 aus der Reichsmusikkammer ausgeschlossen. Nach Kriegsende war Schröder als Bratscher tätig, komponierte und setzte sich mit der Zwölftonmusik auseinander. Schröder hat schon in seinen frühen Kompositionen eine freitonale, horizontale Schreibweise entwickelt, wobei ihm Durchsichtigkeit und Sparsamkeit in der Anwendung technischer Mittel besonders wichtig sind. Seine Vorliebe für kammermusikalische Besetzungen, auch mit Singstimmen, inspirieren ihn auf diesem Gebiet zu immer neuen Formen und Klängen. Seit etwa 1950 beschäftigt er sich mit der Zwölftontechnik, die er in einer persönlichen, nicht doktrinären Weise anwendet" (MGG XVI, 1678). Auf Briefpapier mit montiertem Absenderschildchen.
