Two first edition volumes of illustrated catalogues of the works of German-born American artist Karl Schrag, characterised by the National Gallery of Art as 'among the most important printmakers in America during the 1950s'. Schrag studied at art school Atelier 17, where his fellow students included Marc Chagall, Joan Miró, and Jackson Pollock.With the 1971 'Catalogue Raisonne of the Graphic Works, 1939-1970', in bright cloth covered boards with very scarcepublisher's original slip case, and the much slighter volume II, a Catalogue Raisonne of his works from 1971-1980. Both are illustrated throughout with plates of Schrag's works. Volume I features five colour plates.Loosely inserted is a small pamphlet for an exhibition of Schrag's 'recent prints and monotypes', held March 8 - April 5, 1980 in New York. With volume I in publisher's original cloth covered boards with cloth covered slip case, and volume II in the publisher's original paper wraps. Externally, bright and clean. Minor fading and shelf wear to head and tail of vol I back strip. Some rubbing to slip case head, with some light spots here also. Internally, firmly bound. Pages clean and bright. Very Good Indeed. book.
