Decorative gray wrapper with red and black lettering. 62 very clean unmarked and uncreased historical and informative pages! "The papers contained in this volume were first presented on June 20, 21, and 22, 1968 in the symposium on "Development and Change in Traditional Agriculture: Focus on South Asia" held at Michigan State University and sponsored by the Asian Studies Center. Coming as it did at the beginning of the University's summer term, the symposium served to inaugurate several different activities. During the summer of 1968, Michigan State University was host to the Inter-University Rotating Summer Program in South Asian Studies, a cooperative scholarly enterprise sponsored by the South Asia Language and Area Centers in universities belonging to the Committee on Institutional Cooperation. Student and faculty participants in this program, many of them from disciplines not connected with problems of economic and agricultural development, were regular members of the audience and enthusiastic participants in the discussions at symposium sessions. One of the special seminars held twice weekly throughout the term as a part of the South Asia Summer Program dealt with Problems of Rural Development in India and Pakistan. This seminar, under the chairmanship of Professor Harry M. Rauler, Jr., of the Department of Anthropology, was also inaugurated by the symposium Like the symposium, it attracted a wide, multidisciplinary audience and was addressed by a similarly diverse series of guest lecturers." ---- from the Introduction.

Aggiungi al carrelloPaperback. Condizione: new. Paperback. This book is about American Indians and my wonderful experiences at the Pine Ridge Indin Reservtion in western South Dakota. My first sweat lodge was very haunting and deeply moving, and hot. The drums resonated, people chanted and prayed. I was drawn there in 1996 after experiencing the newly born prophetic white buffalo calf in Wisconsin.I was totoally emersed in their culture and politics. It was a new world that saved me and changed me.The Hopi Kachina dances are hauntingly beautiful and take us back to an ancient place inside ourselves. The reservations are unlike anything in mainsream USA society. I also was a college instructor at Oglala Lakota College for three years and taught at the Navajo Reservation for one year. I saw a side of life most Americans never exprience. The book relates the author's experiences and the many people he met at the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation from 1996-2008. He became deeply involved in their culture and taught at a tribal college. He lived there and roamed the Black Hills. His personal spirit connections are also revealed. The plight of the American Grey Wolf is discussed.
