Hardcover. Condizione: Very Good. Condizione sovraccoperta: Very Good. pp: [xviii] [3] 4 - 383. Bound in cream coloured boards with map illustration and wrap-around band. The author studied the place names of one of the oldest European settlements in North America. Newfoundland is famous for unusual place names, and the ones in the Avalon Peninsula follow that pattern. The first part of the book is an 'an historical and analytical introduction'. This is followed by a bibliography of the maps, and another bibliography of texts used as reference. Then there is a gazetteer and index which 'lists the situation, description, chronological citations, and other relevant data for each place name.' This is a very good copy. The wrap-around has a one inch tear at the front fold, and internal trace marks of tape repair. There is one other tear with internal tape, and some sunning of the spine. The book has toning on the top half of the spine. Most of this is cosmetic. The text block is clean, and free of any outside markings, or notes. That is unusual in a reference such as this.…
