First Edition. 40 pp. + 20 tondo aquatint plates, half title. 8vo, 9 1/2x6 inches, contemporary 1/4 cloth rebacked, original printed paper label on upper cover; pencil annotations to a couple of plates, final plate foxed and with two folds. The aquatint plates in this copy are uncolored and the margins have been cut down, but the text is nice and clean and the impressions of the handsome plates are bright. A number of these Parisian landmarks no longer exist.

First Edition. 4to. 27 by 21 cm. 40 pp., plus 20 hand-colored aquatint plates of Parisian landmarks, many of which no longer exist (, les Tuileries, the prior opera house, Theatre de l'Ambigu Comique, Porte St. Antoine, Porte St. Bernard, Eglise de St. Chaumont, etc.). The illustrations are contained within circular frames, giving one the sense of peering through a peephole or window, and somehow sharpening one's focus on the structure being portrayed as well. Each plate is accompanies with a two page description and history. Abbey Travel 104. Lacking a half-title. A thoroughly clean copy otherwise.

Modern blue morocco gilt by Bayntun of Bath, top edges gilt, others uncut. Provenance: from the library of Jacques Levy, his sale, Sotheby's, 20th April 2012, lot 336 First edition, and an ATTRACTIVE COPY, paper watermarked 1811.
