Das zentrale Thema des Künstlers, der aus einer der ältesten Familien des Landes stammt, ist das soziale Leben in Südafrika, sowohl auf dem Lande als auch in den Metropolen. Nunn dokumentiert die innerpolitischen Auseinandersetzungen der schwarzen Bevölkerung, den Bürgerkrieg der 1980er-Jahre und dessen Auswirkungen. Dabei interessiert ihn die Realität der Apartheid jenseits medial geprägter Bilder und gesellschaftlicher Vorurteile. Über einen langen Zeitraum hinweg begleitete er insbesondere die Menschen in der südafrikanischen Provinz KwaZulu-Natal sowie im Nachbarland Mosambik. Die Publikation zeigt seine Fotografien von den späten 1970er-Jahren bis heute und ermöglicht einen Einblick in eine bislang unbekannte afrikanische Welt. In seinen ästhetisch wie kompositorisch außergewöhnlichen Fotografien verbindet der Künstler selbst härteste Realität mit Poesie.
