"The Montagnards past history, and the testing time of these recent years through which we have lived with them side by side has led us to divide this work into three parts. A first section describes what they were yesterday and still are to some extent, to-day. The second relates the appalling "Future Shock" which they have been undergoing for almost twenty years: strong enough to crush them and erase them from the face of the earth. Finally, they themselves tell us of the conclusion towards which they are moving, and they explain why and how. It should be added that, although this work is signed by one man, it represents the fruits of reflection and discussion over several years between members of a Vietnamese, Montagnard and French missionary team, moved by a common love and a common goal. May this account and these photographs at least awaken the interest, and if possible the feelings of the reader for these men of the mountains, his brothers." .
