Der Erfah…rungsbericht eines jungen Lehramtsstudenten über seine Kriegsgefangenenschaft 1915-1917, im Original erschienen 1930, wird ergänzt durch seine klarsichtige Schilderung eines erneuten Besuchs der Region im Jahre 1935, in der er klarsichtig die erschreckenden Veränderungen beschreibt und analysiert, sowie durch historische Bilddokumente. - Der deutsche Blick auf die Kriege des 20. Jahrhunderts ist stark vom Zweiten Weltkrieg mit seinen Konzentrations- und Vernichtungslagern und der unmenschlichen Behandlung von Gefangenen geprägt, die den Tod von Millionen vor allem russischer Soldaten zur Folge hatte. Der Erste Weltkrieg war anders, wie uns Septime Gorceix' Buch "Evadé. Des Hauts de Meuse en Moldavie" (1930) eindrucksvoll zeigt. Es gab zwar die kleinen Sadisten, die chauvinistischen Kleinbürger in Uniform, die an den Gefangenen ihr Mütchen kühlten. Es gab Phasen der Repressalie. Aber alles in allem bewegte sich die Behandlung der Gefangenen im Rahmen der Genfer Konventionen und Septime weist mehrmals auf das Regelwerk hin. - Der französische Lehramtsstudent Septime Gorceix gerät im April 1915 in der Nähe von Verdun in deutsche Gefangenschaft. Diese Erzählung sieht sich als das ehrliche Zeugnis eines Entkommenen, der mehr Glück hatte als viele Waffenbrüder, der das Glück hatte, erfolgreich zu sein und den Vorteil, davon erzählen zu können« (Gorceix in seinem Vorwort). Die Neuausgabe wird durch einige Fotos aus dem Lager am Galgenberg ergänzt, sowie zeitgenössische Ansichtskarten jener Orte, die Septime bei seinen Fluchten durchquerte, ebenso wie historische Bilderbogen aus der Sammlung von Dietrich Hecht (Aschaffenburg). Zusätzlich wurde in die Neuausgabe Passagen aus dem Buch "Petit voyage sentimental en Rhénanie et en Bavière" von Septime Gorceix' aufgenommen, in dem er einen Besuch in Würzburg im Sommer 1935 schildert und in dem er klarsichtig die Gefahr analysiert, die das nationalsozialistisch gewordene Deutschland nicht nur für Frankreich darstellt. Ein kleiner Beitrag zum besseren Verständnis der Geschichte Europas im 20. Jahrhundert. 229 Seiten mit 57 meist farbigen Abb. und Karten, broschiert (Königshausen & Neumann 2016).
