The material for the book is drawn from the siege log and letters of the author's father ( who was a sixteen-year old midshipman at the time ) and those of three other officers. The Siege of Ladysmith was a protracted engagement in the Second Boer War, taking place between 2 November 1899 and 28 February 1900 at Ladysmith, Natal. This is the story of the successful defence of the town by a small garrison of the Gordon Highlanders. Ref EE2.
