Paperback. , Penguin Books Ltd. Way before the excitement of the first bounce of the ball, women are vitally involved. Mothers, wives, girlfriends, sisters and daughters share their men with the game, while female support staff train the players and market the clubs. Women journalists write and talk about football, and countless numbers of women go to the football every week to cheer for their team through thick and thin. Football's Women takes a revealing, moving, sometimes humorous look at the women behind the players in Australian Rules football and the impact football has had on their lives. The women who support their loved ones on field, who work as football administrators and sports reporters, the unsung stalwarts who work and fight to keep local teams alive, all have their own football heroes on the field, but this book pays tribute to them as great heroes in their own right. The idea for this book was Kevin Sheedy's. The enduring Essendon coach - one of the great visionaries of the game - was first coached at primary school by a woman. Paperback.…

Please contact us if you have a question about this title.Author: Kevin Sheedy Format: Hardback KEVIN SHEEDY is the biggest figure in Australia's biggest sport, and has played and coached more games than anyone else in the history of Australian rules. This illustrated autobiography comes on the 50th anniversary of his first senior game, and is an intimate, funny and fascinating portrait of the man, the footballer and the larrikin. Although 'Sheeds' won three Premiership flags with Richmond as a player, four with Essendon as a coach, and was foundation coach for emerging powerhouse Greater Western Sydney, he is one of the few footy figures who transcends club loyalties. Loved by all for his colourful ways and fortnight opinions, Sheeds is also admired for his pioneering spirit, for conceiving the Anzac Day game, and for being a passionate advocate of indigenous participation at every level of football. Featuring over 300 photographs, including many from his own private collection that have never been seen before, the book covers everything from his footballing heritage, through all the ups and down of his career, right up to a commentary on footy today. There's a veritable who's who of AFL and beyond from more than 20 contributors including Mark 'Bomber' Thompson, Ron Barassi, James Hird, Dennis Lillee, Michael Long, Jobe Watson, Israel Folau, Callan Ward, David Parkin, Greg Chappell and many more. Hardcover. Condizione: Near Fine. No Jacket. 1st Edition. Hardcover first edition 2000 in near fine condition. SIGNED BY AUTHOR KEVIN SHEEDY: HAVE A GREAT LIFE, KEVIN SHEEDY. Signed by Author(s).

Hardcover. There is only one Kevin Sheedy, a man who occupies a unique position in Australian sport - plumber, self-described grubby little back-pocket, legendary coach, master strategist, mad professor, raconteur, world-wide promoter of the game of Australian Rules. Stand Your Ground is his life story, and it's everything you'd expect from the most surprising, most interesting and most innovative man in AFL. Stand Your Ground is a journey from the working-class heart of Melbourne to every corner of Australia and beyond, including those well-known football outposts: Dublin, Kentucky and the Beverly Wilshire in Hollywood, a trip that only Kevin Sheedy could take. From his descriptions of a young boy growing up in the inner suburbs of Melbourne in the 1950s, through to his playing days at Richmond and his ground-breaking 27 years as coach of Essendon, and finally to his commitment to take Australia's own game to the world, Sheeds book is passionate, erudite, colourful, funny and controversial. It is a work of history, memoir and sporting drama as fascinating and multi-faceted as the man himself. These are USED books. Please only purchase if you are happy with that.
