Contains a Preface, a dedication to Sir Walter Scott, 85 pages of letterpress describing the buildings and environs of Edinburgh, followed by 48 pages containing 101 fine steel engravings from drawings by Shepherd, usually two to a page, of the places described. BOUND WITH an unannounced gatheri…ng of 78 additional fine steel engravings of Scottish castles from other artists, interleaved with letterpress describing the titled owners and the location and design the buildings. These are apparently from "A sequel, intended to bind with this work, now publishing as Scotland Illustrated" referred to at the bottom of the List of Engravings. Together, 179 engravings giving a wonderful view of early 19th century Scotland. Bound in half green Morocco and green boards. Spine mellowed to brown; the title label is torn but complete, and the spine tips and corners are worn The binding is solid, and the contents are generally clean, with only light scattered foxing. A monumental review of a Scotland gone by. Tho's H. Shepherd (illustratore).
