Advertised as an easy to understand guidebook explaining what sort of disease AIDS is and how to prevent it. Author Miyazawa was the director of a hospital; Shiokawa was the chair of the AIDS task force for Japan's Ministry of Health. Preface notes that the biggest risk to spread in Japan is heterosexual intercourse - IV drugs are tightly controlled, gay culture not open - and so it is important to focus on protection. Contents: why AIDS is intractable; what sort of disease it is; how it is transmitted; what to do to prevent transmission; what the symptoms are; what treatments are available; what tests are available; what to keep in mind and do to insure a positive future.

The book provides basic information at a time when dozens of AIDS cases had been reported in Japan. It describes the transmission routes in Japan and US; the world AIDS situation; high risk groups; how to prevent aids; safe sex; testing; treatment; and a section on AIDS in Japan. A large illustrated section presents info on the immune system and AIDS; discussion of human rights of AIDS carriers; how ignorance and prejudice create discrimination; kids with HIV who can't go to school. Last third is a Q&A section. Ends with list of consultation locations and testing services. Illustrated with B&W cartoons summing up key points of advice - e.g. one with a man walking by and showing no interest in injectable drugs, a call girl, and a homosexual liaison, with the caption "The wise man does not court disaster" (from the Confucian classics).

Druck auf Anfrage Neuware - Printed after ordering - This book describes the relationship between the atmosphere and the external plasma of Earth in an unconventional manner. While the main mechanical energy is located in the dense atmosphere, the presence of Earth's plasma environment, which is immersed in the magnetosphere, causes a number of very interesting effects on the atmosphere. A list of such effects includes magnetic substorms, magnetic storms and aurora to the dynamics of the upper atmosphere, heating, thermal expansion, and vertical and horizontal winds. Particle precipitation produces excess ionization and electric currents, causes electric fields, affects recombination and modifies chemical reactions. These are processes which may become important in the climate. The collected articles provide an overview of these effects. This volume is aimed at graduate students and researchers active in the areas of atmospheric science and space science. Previously published in Space Science Reviews, Vol. 168/1-4, 2012.
