Aggiungi al carrello8vo, 1 p, 14 lines. On lightly aged paper, with 9 cm closed tear (affecting a few words, but not the signature) neatly repaired on reverse with archival tape. A letter of condolence on the death of Mrs Slocombe's husband, 'after his long illness'. Salisbury is 'sure he must have had a very courageous spirit to the end - I remember it so well at the Academy Schools'. He suggests a firm that might be willing to buy 'the canvases etc you mention'. The letter links two artists who studied together at the Royal Academy Schools, and also establishes the date of Slocombe's death as 1906. (He is described as 'Shirley Slocombe (floruit 1887-1916)' on the National Portrait Gallery website.).

Half Morocco. Condizione: Very Good. Plates in Colour After Shirley Slocombe (illustratore). First Edition. Folio. 1904 to 1908, important study of English furniture, reprinted several times, but none of the reissues capture the elegant production of the first edition, which is commensurate, in book-form, with the antique pieces it focuses upon. The volumes are internally very clean, bindings tight. Foreedges have some soilage, not affecting pages themselves. Rubbing to spine along gutters, and morocco corners. Leather is contemporary -- of date of publication. Wear to spine tips, and some grubbiness in general to spine, but not disconcerting. Preliminaries in Vol One loose but still attached, but not affecting frontis ill page, nor title page and beyond. Otherwise, this and other volumes tight. Interiors fine, and thus overall the set is very good. 60 colour plates, and many other photographic illustrations -- over 900 black and white illustratiions.
