This captivating book transforms the beautiful compositions of Shakespeare, Young, and Milton into a play that illuminates the human heart and mind through its allegorical characters. The personified elements, such as Conscience, Conviction, and the Regent, engage in thought-provoking conversations that delve into the depths of morality and the nature of sin. Drawing inspiration from the timeless works of literary giants, this book explores profound themes of rebellion, redemption, and the consequences of choices. It exposes the human tendency to rationalize sin and the destructive power of willful ignorance. By presenting these ideas through symbolic characters, the author creates a vivid and unforgettable portrayal of the inner workings of the human soul. Ultimately, this book provides a powerful reminder of the importance of acknowledging and confronting our inner demons, and the transformative potential of seeking forgiveness and reconciliation. It invites readers to embark on a journey of self-reflection and to embrace the transformative power of grace and redemption. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item.

Aggiungi al carrelloHalf-Leather. Condizione: Poor. No Jacket. 1st Edition. The book seems to have been owned originally by a Charles Rogers. His signature and the date 1822 appear on the top of the title-page. He is also responsible for a six line quotation from Dryden written on the blank opposite the title-page.("Three poets, in three distant ages born, / Greece, Italy, and England did adorn,). There is also ('tipped-in) a handwritten quote from Samuel Johnson on the ffep.('He seems to have been well acquainted with his own genius, and to know what it was that Nature had bestowed upon him more bountifully than upon others etc') This is in a different hand ,but appears to be mid Victorian. Both quotes are about Milton. This Charles Rogers would not appear to be the author as he was born in 1825. Stuck down on the front pastedown is a handwritten note signed by Charles Kemble with the heading.'Garrick Club/21st. Dec.1846'. The note (to'Sir') states that he does not have an autograph of Mrs. Siddons (he was her younger brother) which he can part with or he would send it with the enclosed'. Loosely inserted is an undated (Mar 17 no year) on 50, Albemarle Street, W. headed notepaper is a handwritten and signed note from John Murray the 3rd. (I have assumed that it is the 3rd because he states in the note, that his father published this work). He also makes some general comments about the book. There is one other curious, loosely inserted single sheet from about 1872. Unsigned, it appears to be an introduction for a future reprint of the book. (' For more than fifty years this little book has been a household treasure etc.) there are suggestions regarding the addition of Dore illus, and also to the potential market for the book as if by an editor. The handwriting appears to be that of John Murray. The book is in dishevelled half brown calf, with marbled boards,.now much worn.1" missing from top of the spine. The book has been repaired by two makeshift cloth tape hinges, easily removed, I would think, if the book was to be re-bound. The text-block is clean and tight with some, slight foxing. Two small, paper repairs not affecting the text.190pp. Size: 8vo - over 7¾ - 9¾" tall.
