Siegenbeeks grootste tegenstander op het gebied van taal en spelling zou Willem Bilderdijk worden, die vooral in zijn Leidse jaren ( 1817-1827) geen gelegenheid voorbij liet gaan om zijn afkeer van de Leidse hoogleraar en diens domme Siegenbekerij te laten blijken.
