Het onderzoek werd beperkt door een gebrek aan literatuur. In deze studie werden toevallig 12 docenten en 24 schoolleerlingen als onderzoeksonderwerp gebruikt. Er werd gebruik gemaakt van interview-, observatie- en documentanalysemethoden om gegevens te genereren. De documentanalyse/beoordelingsmethode werd ook gebruikt om informatie te verstrekken over de begeleiding van de leraren Engels taal over de onderwijs- en leerprocedures, onderwijsmethoden en -strategieën in het schrijven van paragrafen en over de doelstellingen van het onderwijs van de Engelse taal als vreemde taal aan Zimbabwaanse studenten.
