Das Lehrbuch diente der Vorbereitung auf das Sächsische Bürgerliche Gesetzbuch (Sächsisches BGB). Dieses wegweisende Gesetzbuch wurde am 2. Januar 1863 publiziert und trat am 1. März 1865 offiziell in Kraft. Sintenis lie…ferte mit seinem Buch eine zeitnahe, systematische Einführung für Studenten und Praktiker. Er analysiert das Verhältnis des neuen Gesetzbuchs zum bis dahin geltenden Gemeinen Recht. Es gliedert sich nach einer Vorrede und Einleitung in den systematischen Aufbau des Gesetzbuchs (beginnend mit dem 1. Teil: Allgemeine Bestimmungen). Ein integriertes alphabetisches Register erleichtert das gezielte Nachschlagen von Rechtsbegriffen. Das Sächsische BGB gilt in der Rechtsgeschichte als ein meisterhaftes Gesetzeswerk des 19. Jahrhunderts. Es war das erste deutsche Gesetzbuch, welches das Trennungs- und Abstraktionsprinzip der Pandektenwissenschaft konsequent umsetzte. Damit diente es (und die zeitgenössische Fachliteratur wie jene von Sintenis) als direktes strukturelles Vorbild für das spätere, gesamtdeutsche Bürgerliche Gesetzbuch (BGB) von 1900. - Sintenis (1804-1868) wurde als Sohn eines Advokaten in Zerbst geboren und war der Enkel des bekannten Theologen Christian Friedrich Sintenis. Nach dem Besuch des Gymnasiums in Zerbst studierte er von 1822 bis 1824 die Rechtswissenschaften an der Universität Leipzig. Am 10. September 1825 promovierte er zum Dr. jur. an der Universität Jena. Nach dem Studium ließ er sich zunächst als Regierungsadvokat in seiner Heimatstadt Zerbst nieder. Er war maßgeblich an der Übersetzung des Corpus Iuris Civilis ins Deutsche beteiligt, die er gemeinsam mit Karl Eduard Otto und Bruno Schilling herausgab. Sein bekanntestes wissenschaftliches Werk ist das mehrbändige Lehrbuch 'Das practische gemeine Civilrecht'. Er war Professor an der Justus-Liebig-Universität Gießen.
